Working with children and families?
Do you
- know how to act appropriately and confidently if you suspect a child is vulnerable to abuse or neglect?
- understand the new Vulnerable Children Act legislation and how to apply best practice?
With the government putting the spotlight on the protection of vulnerable children in NZ, never before has it been more important to be up-to-speed with child protection best practice.
Professional child protection training ensures you are best equipped to respond to vulnerable children. It provides people and organisations who work with children with a broad base of skills, and just as importantly the confidence to act effectively when abuse is suspected, and to intervene early when a child is at risk.
Child protection training can also support your organization and staff by reducing the risk of serious allegations or repercussions should an incident occur.
The Child Protection Studies Programme is a nationally recognized, NZQA accredited programme providing specialist education in child protection. The content covered in the programme is comprehensive and practical, and is designed to enhance the skills of those who have a responsibility or role in the safety of children.
It is also an excellent opportunity for networking and collaboration with others who work with children in your community.
What will I learn?
Topics covered in this training include:
- Understanding the nature and causes of child abuse
- Understanding the effects and symptoms of child abuse
- Recognising child abuse
- What to do when child abuse is suspected, including how children are protected under NZ legislation
- Reporting child abuse
- Networks for protecting children, including a number of professional guest speakers from your community
- Supervision and care of self
